Auto Part Delays Causing Rental Hardships

If you ask an Automobile Claims Representative what the biggest problem insureds are facing right now, they would most likely tell you that it is delays in obtaining automotive parts, causing insureds to exceed their rental car coverage limit. We are seeing delays on parts for weeks or even months, and some parts have no estimated arrival date. This is creating real hardships for our customers. The toughest scenario is when the customer is at fault for the loss, and they have to pay out-of-pocket for the rental once the policy limit is reached.

Unfortunately, even when someone else is responsible, getting additional rental days approved can be quite a hassle. Many carriers are not accepting direct bills and will expect customers to pay out of pocket for weeks, even months, with no guarantee of full reimbursement.

Here are a few things you can do to reduce your expense and aggravation in the event of an accident requiring a rental:

  1. Increase the rental limit on your insurance policy.
  2. If your car is drivable, drive it until the repair shop advises you that all required parts are in
  3. Rent the least expensive car you live with, the reduced daily cost will stretch your rental reimbursement limit on your policy
  4. Don't delay notifying your insurance agent about the accident so they can get the ball rolling quickly with insurance company and keep things on track.
